If you teach literature and you have been told you need to "add AI literacy" to your curriculum, you have probably noticed that the advice available is written for computer science classrooms, corporate training departments, or vague "digital citizenship" standards. Almost none of it is written for people who teach Beloved or Things Fall Apart .
This post is a short field guide for that gap. It draws on the framework we laid out in AI Literacy for Readers: A Classroom Primer and adapts it specifically to teachers working inside a literature curriculum.
Teach students that a good AI question about a text points at a passage. "What does this paragraph mean?" is different from "What does the book mean?" — the first is a reading exercise the AI can help with; the second is a summary shortcut the AI will happily supply.
