THE new Mr. Prawley (by this time a family, but we still clung to the name Prawley, just as all coloured waiters are called "George") was a most unusual man.
For a month before we hired him he had been trying to undermine Isobel's faith in the Mr. Prawley from East Westcote. He had called at the house two or three times a week. At first he merely asked for the job of man-of-all-work, as any applicant might have asked for it, but he soon began speaking of our Prawley in the most damaging terms.
