Men of the German Reichstag!
Today The Reichstag convenes on an important day for the German people. Four years have passed since the moment that marked the greatest internal transformation and reorganization that Germany has ever experienced. I asked the German people to give me four years as trial period. What could be more logical than to use this occasion to enumerate in detail all the successes and progress that these four years have brought to the German people? Of course it will not be possible to mention in such a short rally all the remarkable results of what might be the most astounding epoch in the life of our people. This is rather the task of the press and propaganda. In addition, an exhibition will take place this year in the capital of the Reich, Berlin, in which a more comprehensive and in-depth picture will be presented of what has been created, achieved, and begun than I could possibly do in a two-hour speech. I will therefore use today's historic meeting of the German Reichstag to look back on the past four years and point out some of the general insights, experiences, and conclusions that are important to understand, not only for us, but also for posterity.
