Emily was agitating for a visit to Mungee, ostensibly to keep her sister Isabel company. She hoped to get from there across the ranges to see Rachel in her grand new home. Before her departure from Three Rivers, Louisa Pool had rapturously invited her to Curradoobidgee and had made a plea to Mrs Mazere. But Mrs Mazere had said that it could not be thought of for the present. Charlotte afterwards warned Louisa that such a visit would not be acceptable to Mr Mazere. and the girls were dashed. It had not, however, prevented them from discussing possibilities in the big double bed upstairs at night.
-"You see," Louisa had said, "Bert and I could just nick down to Mungee and bring you on from there, as easy as taking snuff."
