Chihuahua Under Villa, 1913-1915

Villa's greatest initial achievement after taking power in Chihuahua was to recreate the unprecedented unity of the great majority of Chihuahuans that had existed in the five months of the Madero revolution, from November 1910 to April 1911. That unity broke apart soon after Madero's victory, when the demands of the lower classes of rural society were not met. The most tangible expression of this breakdown was the Orozco rebellion. That disunity was still apparent throughout the state when Villa crossed the border from the United States in March 1913 but had largely disappeared by March 1914.
