On the Archival Trail of Pancho Villa
When I began writing both the biography of Villa and the history of his movement, I faced four main obstacles in terms of sources. The first was the enormous discrepancy between the great quantity of memoirs and articles on Villa (more than 2,000 in Mexican newspapers alone) and the apparent paucity of contemporary archival records (with the significant exception of the years 1913-15).
