(Don Juan, Avellaneda, Centellas)

DON JUAN: Good God! His being alters to penetrate the wall as when dog days of summer dry up a waterfall. Didn't he tell me "Touch the marble of my statue." How then can a rock disappear at all? Impossible to understand! Perhaps some former owner poisoned my casks of wine, and the bottles from his cellar stirred a dream in my mind. But what if these I think are ghosts, are real spirits, that dwell apart, sent from the heavenly hosts to visit my heart! Well, if the penitence of a Don Juan ought to be equal to his crimes, what's the sense in this wretched term they give me? God is giving me only one day. If in truth it were the deity, he would give a greater space for his warnings of eternity. "Think, for you will have me at your side." is what she said the spirit of Inés, since I don't see her, it's a dream. (The shade of Doña Ines shows through the wall)
