Explore "The Case against War in Iraq" by Howard Zinn on Textopian. Read with annotations and highlights.
This essay was published in the Boston Globe in August 2002, when the United States was already heavily involved in a war in Afghanistan and the Bush administration began talking of a preemptive war on Iraq. The arguments I make are the same ones that were made repeatedly and more frequently by the growing number of people who eventually opposed the war in Iraq. I've added it here not for its tragic prescience, but as a testament to how clear the case was even then, and how strong it remains.
The Bush administration's plan for preemptive war against Iraq so flagrantly violates both international law and common morality that we need a real national debate.
