Homily, Solemnity of Corpus Christi-June 16, 2001.

The Good News of the multiplication of the loaves is one of those events that have been etched forever in the memory of the Church. We will never tire of hearing in amazement what happened that afternoon, the retelling of that 'unprecedented gesture' of Jesus. It was a party, a humble party, a feast of faith. Humble because there were only loaves and fishes, but so superabundant that they gave rise to wonder, faith, the pleasure of sharing the same table and the feeling of fellowship in that bread. We can only imagine the people breaking the bread in surprise and sharing it full of joy with their neighbors.
