Big Sandy.
A town of five hundred or so. About half lived in the town itself and the other half farther out on the plains, on tracts of land they hoped to homestead. But even those numbers far outdid what Adelaide had been used to back in the Lucerne Valley. There had been five neighboring families within the vicinity of her family's farm. Add up all the children and parents and you might've had forty people, give or take. More livestock than people by a factor of one hundred. So even Big Sandy's numbers might've made Adelaide feel small, as she'd felt in San Pedro, to say nothing of her short time in Seattle.
