In wasting one drop from the heart's honey cells, / One precious drop that, for the moment, quells / Desire's pain, eases love's itch and ills, / There's less remains, for only once love fills,
When love's mouth knows its greatest thirst.
That great love, in its passion, demands all / The honey that man had at first / Before, unthinkingly, he shared its gold / With one and all, being love's child.
In those far days he was not very old / In love, knew little of love's wrong.
Wrong love took much, and when love's great mouth called, / In earnest from a woman's face, / Little there was to moisten of the honey hoard.
