During this Mass for Holy Thursday, when the Church gathers us year after year with this opening passage of the Gospel according to Saint Luke: "Jesus came to Nazareth, where he had grown up, and went according to his custom into the synagogue on the sabbath day. He stood up to read and was handed a scroll of the prophet Isaiah. " (Lk 4: 16-17). I want to pause a moment to contemplate, together with you, dear brothers in the priesthood, the same scene: a scene so well described, it paints for us Jesus in the synagogue of his town, as if we were saying Jesus in the neighborhood church, in our parish. It will do us good to get into the scene imagining that little chapel of Nazareth and, why not, each one imagining Jesus in his parish, in his church.
