FRIDAY, FEBRUARY Ist: He went this night to the east-north-east, for sixteen leagues and a half. During the day he ran on the same course for twenty-nine leagues and a quarter. The sea was very smooth, thanks be to God.
SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 2nd: This night he went to the east-north-east forty miles, which are ten leagues. In the day, with the same wind astern, he ran seven miles an hour; so that in eleven hours he made seventy-seven miles, which are nineteen leagues and a quarter. The sea was very smooth, thanks to God, and the breezes very soft. They saw the sea so choked with weed that, if they had not seen it, they would have feared shoals. They saw petrels.
