Like life, no publication is a solitary journey. I am blessed with friends and family on both sides of the globe-China and the United States-who have helped shape and sustain me as much in life as in this creative process. I am reminded, constantly, by how each country has allowed me to better understand the other.

I would like to thank my Chinese and American families-some associated by blood, most by choice-for helping me create and comprehend my life experiences. To my parents, Baba and Mama, thank you for instilling in me the value system that has been my essence. Thanks to my aunties and uncles, for protecting me ever since I came into the world. To my brother, Di Di, thank you for sharing the happy and challenging days of our childhood. To my teachers and friends Hu Shuyuan and Chen Jianing, I am forever grateful for your guidance and instruction at times in my life when higher education was denied.
