Remarks, Selichot Service in Preparation for Rosh Hashana at the Synagogue on 2049 Vidal Street-September 11, 2004.

Today we have come before the Lord. We can imagine the scene as at the beginning of the book of Job (1: 6). There the Lord asks questions, and these move the heart, unveil intentions. We are before him, willing to listen. Let's allow his questions to move us within, to make us transparent. Let's not be afraid of Truth if we recognize or proclaim it before him because "Merciful and gracious is the LORD, slow to anger, / abounding in mercy. / He will not always accuse, / and nurses no lasting anger" (Ps 103: 8-9).
