Homily, Day of the Unborn Child-March 25, 2004, Feast of the Annunciation.
Mary's 'Yes' opens the door to the long journey of the Son of God among us. Today begins this journey of the Lord, who "went about doing good" (Acts 10: 38), cured our wounds with his wounds, proclaimed our triumph with his Resurrection. Jesus walks among his people ever since he was in his Mother's womb; he wants to follow all our steps, even the journey of the unborn child. He became equal to us in everything but sin. This event radically changes human existence. The Lord assumes our life and elevates it to the supernatural order. The presence of the Word of God made flesh transforms-without denying-everything that is human, elevates it, and places it in the dimension of the Kingdom of God. Thus, the unborn Jesus also enlightens the life of the person in his mother's womb. From our faith-through the mystery of the Incarnation of the Word-the human, what is in the order of the natural law, acquires the new supernatural dimension that, without denying nature, perfects it and leads it to its fullness.
