Vasilísa Popóvna

In a kingdom, a girl named Vasilísa Vasílyevna, disguised as a man, captures the attention of Tsar Bárkhat during a hunting expedition. The Tsar, intrigued by her, sends for her to dine at his palace, unaware of her true identity. To confirm whether she is a maiden, the Tsar's housekeeper devises tests involving an embroidery-frame and a pie filled with pearls. Each time, Vasilísa, true to her character, scorns the feminine items and rejects the pearls, leading the Tsar to remain uncertain about her gender. Determined to uncover the truth, the Tsar invites her again, this time to a bath. Vasilísa, quick and clever, enters and exits the bath before the Tsar can even undress. She leaves a letter for him, revealing her true identity as Vasilísa Vasílyevna, thus outsmarting the Tsar. The story highlights themes of gender roles, identity, and cleverness, showcasing Vasilísa's intelligence and defiance against societal expectations.
