**Alfred Henry Huth (1850–1910)** English bibliophile and bibliographer. Born in London on 14 January 1850, second son of banker and book collector Henry Huth and Augusta Westenholz. Sent to Rugby and Berlin University after early travels in the Middle East under the guardianship of historian Henry Thomas Buckle. Became a partner in the family merchant firm Frederick Huth and Co. and a director of the Alliance Assurance Company. On his father's death in 1878 he inherited the celebrated Huth Library and completed, in 1880, the catalogue his father had begun. He expanded and cared for the collection for the rest of his life. His publications include *The Marriage of Near Kin* (1875; 2nd ed. 1887) and *The Life and Writings of Henry Thomas Buckle* (2 vols., 1880), a spirited biography that also attacked Buckle's traveling companion John Stuart Stuart-Glennie. In 1892 he helped found the Bibliographical Society, serving as its first treasurer and later as president. He died of heart failure on 14 October 1910 while shooting in Hampshire, leaving unfinished a *Catalogue of the Woodcuts and Engravings in the Huth Library*, published posthumously.
