Alice Duer Miller

Alice Duer Miller (1874-1942) was an American writer and poet. She was born in New York City and educated at Vassar College. She wrote several novels, including The White Cliffs (1915), which was made into a movie in 1940. She also wrote plays, short stories, and essays. Her poetry was published in The New Yorker and other magazines. She was a strong advocate for women's rights and was a leader in the suffrage movement. She was a member of the National Woman's Party and was arrested in 1917 for picketing the White House. She was also a member of the National Institute of Arts and Letters.
