Immortality by Ambrose Bierce (1891)

"Immortality" is a short story by Ambrose Bierce, first published in 1893. The story follows a man named John who, after being involved in a train accident, discovers that he has become immortal. Initially elated by his newfound immortality, John soon becomes disillusioned with the monotony and loneliness of living forever. He longs for the company of others and the ability to experience death, which he believes would bring him a sense of peace and closure.
