A young woman named Ruth Vincent is found dead in her home, with no signs of struggle or foul play. The only clue is a small piece of paper found near the body with the words "The night was dark and stormy" written on it. The case is assigned to detective Jack Fletcher, who must unravel the mystery before the killer strikes again. As he investigates, he discovers that Ruth had many secrets and enemies, including her husband, who had a history of infidelity, and her business partner, who had a motive for murder. But as Jack delves deeper into the case, he realizes that nothing is as it seems, and the truth is far more sinister than he could have imagined.
