Anna Katharine Green

Katharine Green (1846-1935) was an American author of detective fiction. She was born in Brooklyn, New York, and was the daughter of a prominent lawyer. She was educated at home and was an avid reader from an early age. Green wrote her first novel, The Leavenworth Case, in 1878. It was an immediate success and established her as one of the first female authors of detective fiction. She went on to write more than twenty novels, including The Circular Study (1890), The Millionaire Baby (1893), and The House in the Mist (1895). Green was a pioneer in the genre of detective fiction, and her works are credited with helping to popularize the genre. She was also a strong advocate for women's rights and was a member of the National American Woman Suffrage Association. Green died in 1935 at the age of 89. She is remembered as one of the most influential authors of detective fiction in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
