"A Song" is a novel set in the Appalachian Mountains during World War I. The story follows the lives of two young men, Jimmie and Jack, who are best friends and neighbors. Jimmie is drafted into the army, leaving Jack behind to care for his family's farm. While Jimmie is away, Jack falls in love with a young woman named Lizzie, but their happiness is short-lived as Jimmie returns from the war injured and unable to speak. The novel explores themes of friendship, love, and sacrifice in the face of war.
