Bernal Díaz del Castillo (c. 1496–1584) was a Spanish conquistador and chronicler. He participated in the conquest of Mexico under Hernán Cortés. Díaz del Castillo is best known for his firsthand account, "The True History of the Conquest of New Spain," which provides a detailed narrative of the events from the perspective of a soldier.
