Carlos Fuentes (1923-2012) was a Mexican novelist, essayist, and playwright. He is best known for his novels that explore the complexities of Mexican identity, history, and culture. Some of his notable works include "The Death of Artemio Cruz," "Terra Nostra," and "Aura." Fuentes was awarded the Cervantes Prize, the most prestigious literary award in the Spanish-speaking world, in 1987. He is considered one of the most important Latin American writers of the 20th century and has been translated into many languages.
