Carmen Sylva (1843–1916) was the pen name of Elisabeth of Wied, the Queen consort of Romania from 1881 to 1914. She was a poet, novelist, and playwright, and was the first woman to write in Romanian. She wrote over 50 books, including poetry, novels, plays, and children's stories. She was a patron of the arts and a philanthropist, and was a major influence on the development of Romanian culture. She was also a passionate advocate for the rights of women and children.
