Carolyn Wells (1862-1942) was an American author and poet. She wrote over 100 books, including novels, poetry, and children's books. She was also a prolific anthologist, compiling collections of poetry, stories, and jokes. Wells was born in Rahway, New Jersey, and attended the Packer Collegiate Institute in Brooklyn. She began writing at an early age, and her first book, The Story of a Short Life, was published in 1891. Wells was a founding member of the Poetry Society of America and was the first woman to serve as its president. She was also a member of the Authors League of America and the National Institute of Arts and Letters. Wells was a popular author in her day, and her books were translated into several languages. She died in 1942 in New York City.
