Catherine Parr Strickland Traill (1802-1899) was a Canadian author and naturalist. She was born in England and immigrated to Canada in 1832 with her husband, Thomas Traill. She wrote several books about her experiences in the Canadian wilderness, including The Backwoods of Canada (1836), Canadian Crusoes (1852), and The Female Emigrant's Guide (1854). She also wrote about the flora and fauna of Canada, and her work was instrumental in popularizing the study of natural history in Canada. She was a founding member of the Toronto Entomological Society and the Toronto Botanical Society. She was also a founding member of the Women's Literary Club of Toronto. She was inducted into the Order of Canada in 1976.
