Toffee Takes a Trip

"Toffee Takes a Trip" by Charles F. Myers follows Marc Pillsworth, who decides to take a vacation at a beach house without his wife, Julie. Marc is discontented and sunburned, missing his wife and feeling the monotony of his days. His imaginary friend, Toffee, a vivacious redhead, materializes from his subconscious, bringing chaos and excitement. Marc encounters two strange individuals on the beach, leading to a series of bizarre events involving explosions, murder, and a mad scientist named Dr. Herrigg. Herrigg has developed a device capable of destroying the world, and he plans to use Marc's advertising skills to extort global governments. Marc and Toffee, with the help of a drunken plumber named Harold, navigate through Herrigg's underground laboratory, ultimately thwarting his plans. The story concludes with Marc's realization that the world has united against a perceived extraterrestrial threat, and he reunites with Julie, who has returned from her separate vacation.
