Donkey-Skin, by Charles Perrault: A king and queen have a beautiful daughter named Donkey-Skin. The king promises to give her hand in marriage to any man who can guess her name within a year's time. Many suitors try, but none succeed until a poor, simple man named Jack comes along and correctly identifies her as "Donkey-Skin." The king is angry at Jack for not following the traditional ways of guessing a woman's name, but Jack convinces him to keep his promise by revealing that he has fallen in love with Donkey-Skin. The couple marries and lives happily ever after.
