The Mariposa Legend by Charlotte Herr: A young girl named Mariposa discovers a mysterious egg in the forest. She brings it back to her village and, after much effort, hatches it. The egg hatches into a magnificent creature with wings as wide as the sky and eyes that shine like the stars. The villagers are amazed and ask Mariposa to show them more of the creature's abilities. However, as they continue to demand more and more from Mariposa, she begins to feel overwhelmed and exhausted. Eventually, she realizes that the creature is not just a tool for entertainment but also a living being with its own needs and desires. Mariposa must learn to balance her own needs with those of the creature and find a way to coexist peacefully.
