Christopher Anvil (born October 28, 1921, as Christopher Anvil St. John) was an American science fiction author. He wrote over 50 short stories and several novels, mostly in the 1950s and 1960s. Anvil was born in New York City and attended the City College of New York. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, and afterwards worked as a technical writer for the U.S. Navy. Anvil's stories often featured a humorous tone, and often featured a twist ending. He was known for his "problem stories," in which a group of characters must solve a difficult problem. His stories were often published in Astounding Science Fiction and Analog Science Fiction and Fact. Anvil died in 2009 at the age of 87.
