Disobedient Jimmy Crow by David Cory

A family of crows, led by Professor Jim Crow, faces challenges when the professor leaves to teach young animals. Mrs. Crow is tasked with caring for their children, who are eager to learn to fly. Grandmother Magpie encourages the little crows to try flying, but Mrs. Crow insists they are too young. Frustrated by their confinement, Jimmy Crow decides to disobey his mother and attempts to fly. Despite his siblings' warnings, he hops out of the nest and lands on the ground. Unfortunately, he is quickly caught by a farmer's boy, who clips his wings, rendering him unable to fly. The incident serves as a cautionary tale about the consequences of disobedience and the importance of listening to parental guidance. The narrative explores themes of independence, the desire for freedom, and the lessons learned from making reckless choices.
