David Hennessey (1850-1917) was an Irish-born author and journalist who wrote extensively about the history and culture of his native country. He was born in Dublin and educated at Trinity College, Dublin. He worked as a journalist for the Dublin Evening Mail and the Freeman's Journal, and wrote several books on Irish history and folklore. His most famous work is The Caves of Shend, a collection of stories about the mysterious caves of Shend in County Kerry. The book was published in 1890 and was widely praised for its vivid descriptions and imaginative storytelling. Hennessey also wrote several other books, including The Irish Fairy Book (1893) and The Irish Folklore Book (1895). He died in 1917 in Dublin.
