Denis Diderot (1713–1784) was a French philosopher, art critic, and writer. He was a prominent figure during the Enlightenment and is best known for serving as co-founder, chief editor, and contributor to the Encyclopédie along with Jean le Rond d'Alembert. Diderot's most famous work is Rameau's Nephew, a dialogue between the nephew of the famous composer Jean-Philippe Rameau and a character named Diderot. The work is a satire of the French aristocracy and a critique of the Enlightenment. It was first published in 1805, after Diderot's death.
