Edmund Gosse

Edmund Gosse (1849-1928) was an English poet, author, and critic. He was born in London, England, and was educated at King's College London and Trinity College, Cambridge. He began his literary career as a reviewer for the Athenaeum in 1873, and later became a prolific writer of poetry, novels, and biographies. His works include Father and Son (1907), a memoir of his strained relationship with his father, and his poetry collections, including On Viol and Flute (1873) and New Poems (1894). He was also a noted translator of Scandinavian literature, and his translations of Ibsen's plays were particularly influential. He was appointed a Companion of Honour in 1922.
