Emilio Salgari (1862-1911) was an Italian adventure novelist and writer of swashbuckling stories. He is considered one of the fathers of the Italian literary genre known as "avventure" (adventures). Salgari wrote over 200 novels, many of which were set in exotic locations such as India, China, and the South Seas. His most famous works include The Tigers of Mompracem, The Black Corsair, and Sandokan. Salgari's works have been translated into many languages and have been adapted for film, television, and comic books. He is considered one of the most influential Italian writers of the 19th century.
