Ernest Bramah

Ernest Bramah (1868–1942) was an English author and humorist best known for his detective stories featuring the blind detective Max Carrados. He was born in Manchester, England, and educated at Owens College. He began writing in his twenties, and his first book, The Wallet of Kai Lung, was published in 1900. He wrote a number of other books, including Kai Lung Unrolls His Mat (1906), The Mirror of Kong Ho (1917), and The Secret of the League (1917). He also wrote several short stories, including "The Sign of Four" (1902) and "The Tragedy at Brookbend Cottage" (1908). He was a member of the Detection Club, along with other notable authors such as Agatha Christie and Dorothy L. Sayers. He died in 1942 in London.
