Ernesto Che Guevara

Ernesto "Che" Guevara (1928-1967) was an Argentine Marxist revolutionary, physician, and author. Born in Rosario, Argentina, he grew up in a middle-class family with leftist political views and studied medicine at the University of Buenos Aires. In 1952, Guevara traveled through Latin America, witnessing poverty that deepened his commitment to revolutionary politics. He later traveled to Guatemala to support President Jacobo Árbenz's socialist government. Guevara wrote "Proyecciones sociales del Ejército Rebelde" (Social Projects of the Rebel Army) as a manifesto emphasizing socialist revolution. His ideas were influenced by Marxism-Leninism, and he advocated for armed revolution in Latin America. Guevara joined Fidel Castro's 26th of July Movement and played a key role in the Cuban Revolution. He served as Cuba's minister of industry and president of the National Bank during the early years of the revolution. He was captured and executed by the Bolivian military in 1967 while attempting to foment revolution in Bolivia.
