Fergus Hume

Fergus Hume (1859-1932) was an English novelist and playwright. He is best known for his mystery novel The Mystery of a Hansom Cab (1886), which was one of the best-selling novels of the 19th century. Hume was born in England and educated at Cambridge University. He moved to Australia in 1885 and worked as a barrister in Melbourne. He wrote several plays and novels, including The Mystery of a Hansom Cab, which was adapted into a play and a film. Hume also wrote several other mystery novels, including The Bishop's Secret (1890) and The Mystery of the Four Fingers (1891). He returned to England in 1895 and continued to write until his death in 1932.
