The story revolves around a young and beautiful gypsy girl named Esmeralda who lives on the streets of Paris. She survives by begging and performing with her pet goat Djali. One day, she catches the attention of a kind-hearted archdeacon named Claude Frollo, who adopts her. However, his motives are not entirely pure as he intends to use her to lure Quasimodo, the deformed bell-ringer of Notre Dame Cathedral, out of the cathedral.
