Frances Hodgson Burnett

Frances Hodgson Burnett (1849-1924) was an English-American playwright and author. She is best known for her children's novels Little Lord Fauntleroy (1886), A Little Princess (1905), and The Secret Garden (1911). Burnett was born in Manchester, England, and moved to the United States with her family in 1865. She began writing stories and plays as a young woman, and her first novel, That Lass o' Lowrie's, was published in 1877. Burnett's works often explore themes of childhood innocence, poverty, and the power of imagination. She was a popular author in her time, and her works have been adapted for stage and screen numerous times. She was also a successful playwright, with her plays The Little Princess and The Lost Prince both being produced on Broadway. Burnett died in 1924 in Plandome, New York. Her works remain popular today, and she is considered one of the most influential authors of children's literature.
