The novel follows the story of a young man, John Dene, who is blackmailed by a mysterious figure known only as "The Spider". In the end, John is able to uncover the truth and put an end to the blackmail. However, the consequences of his actions have far-reaching implications, and the novel ends with John facing an uncertain future.
