Freeman Wills Crofts was a British engineer and mystery writer born on January 25, 1879, in Belfast, Ireland. He worked as an engineer for the Great Northern Railway of Ireland before turning to writing full-time. His first novel was published in 1920, and he went on to write over 30 novels and numerous short stories.
