Friedrich Spielhagen (1829–1911) was a German novelist and literary critic. He was known for his contributions to the social novel genre, often addressing issues of class and politics. Spielhagen studied at the universities of Berlin, Bonn, and Greifswald. His notable works include "Problematic Characters" and "Hammer and Anvil."
