The narrative follows a young hero, Swaigder, who, while playing with a ball, inadvertently draws the attention of a damsel who longs for him. The ball's journey leads him to seek advice from his deceased mother, who reveals that he must rescue a maiden held captive in a foreign land. Armed with magical gifts from his mother, including a swift horse and a powerful sword, Swaigder embarks on a quest to find the maiden. Upon arriving in the distant land, he learns of the maiden's longing for him, despite never having met. Swaigder's reputation precedes him, and he is welcomed by the local king, who reveals that his daughter is the one yearning for Swaigder. The two meet, and she agrees to convert to Christianity and accompany him back to Denmark. Their union culminates in a grand wedding, celebrated for nine days, during which Swaigder honors the ancient man who aided him by elevating him to a position of respect. Ultimately, Swaigder's journey transforms him from a young man in search of love into a king, while the maiden becomes his queen, and they live in peace, fulfilling the prophecy of their destined connection.
