George Tomkyns Chesney (1830–1895) was a British army officer, novelist, and essayist. He is best known for his novella "The Battle of Dorking" (1871), which is considered an early example of invasion literature. Chesney served in the Royal Engineers and held various military and administrative positions in India. His writings often reflected his military background and interest in defense issues.
