Gouverneur Morris

Gouverneur Morris (1752-1816) was an American statesman, diplomat, and Founding Father. He was a delegate to the Continental Congress and a signer of the Articles of Confederation. He was a member of the Constitutional Convention and a major contributor to the final draft of the United States Constitution. He was a United States Senator from New York and a United States Minister to France. He was a strong advocate of a strong central government and a strong supporter of the Constitution. He was a leader in the early development of the American economy and was instrumental in the creation of the Bank of the United States. He was a prolific writer and his works include the first draft of the Preamble to the Constitution.
