Gustavo Adolfo Bécquer

Gustavo Adolfo Bécquer (1836-1870) was a Spanish poet and writer of the Romantic movement. He is considered one of the most important figures in Spanish literature and is known for his lyrical poetry and short stories. Bécquer was born in Seville, Spain, and was the son of a painter. He was educated in Seville and Madrid, where he studied painting and sculpture. He began writing poetry at a young age, and his first collection of poems, Rimas, was published in 1858. He also wrote several short stories, including the famous Leyendas, which were published posthumously in 1871. Bécquer was a passionate and romantic writer, and his works often explored themes of love, death, and nature. He was also a strong advocate for freedom of expression and was an important influence on the Spanish literary scene. He died in Madrid in 1870 at the age of 34.
