The Spanish Student
Victorian, a student of Alcala, loves the dancer Preciosa, but Lara's lies and duplicate ring convince him that she has betrayed him; Lara also arranges a disruption that drives her from the stage. Learning of the plot, Victorian finds her in a Gypsy camp near Guadarrama and receives her forgiveness, while news arrives that she was stolen as a child and her father has returned to Spain. As they travel toward her father in Segovia, Bartolome, whose demand that she flee with him she has refused, fires at her, misses, and falls when the shot is returned.
